Virginia - high school senior portrait |
In 1945 Arthur Coan returned to the Coan family farm after having served 3 ½ years in the Army during World War II. He and his brother Robert had both served in the European theatre. Arthur and Virginia Touby were married in 1946 following her graduation from Ball State University. They moved as newlyweds to the Locke farm in Liberty Township. It was here that their four children, David, Jane, Nancy and Elizabeth were raised. Both parents and children were active in the Eastern School Corporation and community. Virginia taught music in the Greentown and Howard Township schools. Arthur and Virginia farmed the historic Locke family farm, eventually purchasing it in the mid-1960s, and they continued to live their well past retirement. In 1989 the farm was granted “Hoosier Homestead” recognition. In 2002 they moved from the farm to a home on High School Road in Greentown.

James David Coan and his wife, Mary (Neal, Tipton, Indiana), live in Greentown. Their son Jason and his wife Shay (Rice) both attended Eastern High School and purchased a six-acre plot of the original 160 acres of the George Locke farm. The farmhouse built by George and Settie was demolished in 2010 and Jason and Shay’s home now stands on the site of the Locke home. Their children are the sixth generation to live on the homestead: George and Settie Locke; Elsie Locke Touby; Arthur and Virginia (Touby) Coan; David Coan; Jason and Shay Coan; and their children Macy (9-30-2004), Marly (10-18-2006) and Jaxon (11-9-2013). David and Jason own and operate Coan Engineering (established 1976) in Kokomo. Coan Engineering is one of the few companies to offer the very precise design of steel stators necessary for the seven inch torque converter used by many of today's class racers.
