In 1935 Louise Touby became the wife of Charles Coan, and they became tenants of the farm that they later purchased on Touby Pike. Their children Patricia and Eugene, and their foster son Robert (Curry) attended Howard Township and later Northwestern schools. Both Charles and Louise took very active roles in the community. Charles served as Howard Township trustee and as a member of the Northwestern school board for two terms. Both he and Louise labored enthusiastically in the planning and building of the Northview Christian Church, the nucleus having developed from the former Rich Valley Church. Both served in many positions on the state and regional levels of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indiana. Louise and Charles moved to Robin Run Village, a facility of the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church in Indianapolis.
