Virginia

Virginia - high school senior portrait

In 1945 Arthur Coan returned to the Coan family farm after having served 3 ½ years in the Army during World War II.  He and his brother Robert had both served in the European theatre.  Arthur and Virginia Touby were married in 1946 following her graduation from Ball State University.  They moved as newlyweds to the Locke farm in Liberty Township.  It was here that their four children, David, Jane, Nancy and Elizabeth were raised.  Both parents and children were active in the Eastern School Corporation and community.  Virginia taught music in the Greentown and Howard Township schools. Arthur and Virginia farmed the historic Locke family farm, eventually purchasing it in the mid-1960s, and they continued to live their well past retirement.  In 1989 the farm was granted “Hoosier Homestead” recognition.   In 2002 they moved from the farm to a home on High School Road in Greentown.
